Brenham Campus Theatre Arts Presents: Antigone

Some stories have been told for 2,500 years because they refuse to let go.

Antigone's brother Polynices is dead, declared a traitor by King Creon, and left unburied by royal decree. To bury him is a crime punishable by death. To leave him is unthinkable. Antigone chooses to act, and in doing so sets in motion a tragedy that will leave no one in the royal house of Thebes untouched.

Sophocles' masterwork is one of the oldest plays in the Western theatrical canon, and one of its most enduring. It is the story of a young woman of fierce loyalty and unbreakable conviction, standing alone against the full weight of the state. It is also a story about grief, about family, and about the terrible cost of pride, on all sides.

The Blinn College Theatre Arts Program's original adaptation brings this ancient story to the W.W. O'Donnell stage with clarity and immediacy, honoring the power of Sophocles' words while making them fully accessible to a modern audience. If you have never experienced Greek tragedy live, this is the place to start. If you have, you already know why this story has endured so long.
